Can anyone that has become an overnight expert in goalkeeping and football management confirm whether or not Carl has a keeper lined up that he preferred over Danny Roberts long term, perhaps with Calvin Hare as his understudy?

One things for sure this thread isn't going to do Hare's confidence any good if he reads it whether he is our number one next season or not. Have a bit of faith guys the season hasn't even started yet. UTA

No not heard anything maybe the mgt team think higher of Hare than many fans do ! ( Its made much worse by us losing Robert's )
Re the squad we have kept quite a few of the very good team of last year some not there yesterday with Tames, Brown and Williams due back Rumours that Prince Heywood might not be which would be a blow ! I thought 3-4 of the new players looked OK but it's hard to judge in a preseason game like that with so many trialists on maybe Thursday will show us more.

To be fair to the critics of our keeper the main critiscm is his height, which he can do nothing about. No one doubts his shot stopping ability or his commitment. Maybe with three central defenders his weakness may not be exposed. As for Danny Roberts, there was obviously a problem between him and the manager and rightly, the manager wins whatever the pros and cons of the situation, ask Joe Hart!!

What am I wrong about?
I refuse to take you seriously after the fog gate scenario when you insisted that you could see both goals when everyone else couldn't see a hand in front of them!

You are wrong about the goalkeeping issue. Our Manager obviously felt that Danny was fit to play at times and that was the reason for the breakdown in the relationship. He was forced to play six other goalkeepers whilst Danny sat in the stands. Who was right? I have no idea, but like I say, the Manager gets the final say.

Anyway, end of subject, Danny has gone and so as Brad and Carl, we, however, go on. I understand that apart from our new centre half we have made three other signings. (I wonder if one is a new goalkeeper?)

I have to say that on the day in question I could also see both goals from the half way line. However, you don't need hawk eyes to note that Hare isn't good enough. Nothing against Hare or indeed Carl's judgement but in my opinion it is a step backwards before even kicking a ball.

Can we move on please. I trust our Manager to sort out the problem one way or another, it is what we pay him for.

Don't forget Jonathon Ritchie, who made 1 appearance in goal on 3rd September. That makes a total of 8 keepers used last year.

I knew there was another one but wasn't certain who it was. Incidentally, Jonathan has recently left his position as Goalkeeping Coach at Tranmere Rovers.

Well I for one hope we have more than one keeper! We need a first choice keeper, Hare is fine as a second choice.

Anyway I thought this thread was put to bed

I don't think there's any question that Calvin Hare is first choice and would have been signed at the beginning of last season but elected to stay at Marine until there was a change of manger and he was out of favour there. If that had been the case then Danny would not have got much of a look in last season. Personally I think Danny is a better keeper but as I've said before I'm not the manager. Any news on whether Danny has got somewhere best wishes and thanks to him for last season from me!
