Looks like the FA Trophy tie is going to be a hard one. Great result tonight, well-done lads.

A really cracking result and I think Knutsfordian has it right we seemed to have got our Mojo back and the early season indifference has been replaced as we get both fitter and more together as a unit. UTA

from Halesowen

Halesowen Town 1 Witton Albion 3

Halesowen dropped to the bottom of the table after being outplayed by classy, second-placed Witton.

Once again, Halesowen fell behind to early goals as Albion went 2-0 up within 19 minutes in a fine display of attractive football. The in-form visitors started on the front foot as Prince Haywood struck a 5th minute free-kick past the post and James Foley drove wide after eight minutes in the driving rain.

Lively Witton wide-man Matty Devine caused all sorts of problems for Halesowen throughout the evening with his probing runs. He danced through the home defence in the 16th minute and although his shot was blocked, Will JONES slotted home the rebound with ease to put Witton in the driving seat.

Halesowen’s first chance came from a 17th minute corner sent over by Matthew Hearsey, but Dominic’s Smith header was gathered by goalkeeper Calvin Hare near his post.

It was soon 2-0 in the 19th minute when Asa Charlton was penalised for handball and Steven TAMES smashed home confidently from the penalty spot.

Although Lee Chilton delivered a good 28th minute cross, the Yeltz struggled to pose any real threat up front and were cut up again at the back in the 34th minute, only for Dan Platt to make a fantastic reflex save from Tames at the end of a lightning attack.

Devine skipped down the left once again three minutes into the second half but his cross was hacked clear and Ben Hedley nodded over the bar after 50 minutes as Halesowen continued to be outclassed.

There was brief hope after Jack KELLY fired home to pull a goal back for Halesowen in the 59th minute when Witton failed to clear a corner from the left.

Halesowen’s Smith and Witton’s Rob Hopley found the back of the net again through headers, but both efforts were chalked off for an infringement on the respective goalkeeper.

Witton continued to be superior, if somewhat wasteful in front of goal, as they hit the crossbar after 62 minutes and went close again in the 85th minute when Jones struck wide following good work on the right-wing from Haywood.

But Albion then deservedly wrapped up the three points in the 89th minute after Platt failed to gather a left-wing corner, leaving HAYWOOD to follow up from 12 yards.

We must be doing brilliantly, 2nd in the Unibond premier league and we get a mention on the inside 3rd back page of the 1874 Northwich Guardian.

In fairness, and you know that is not like me, they are still in the FA Cup and FA Trophy whilst we are out of one and face a stinker of a tie in the other. Once it is just down to league positions I am sure the Guardian will be fairer with their reporting.

The FA trophy has no impact on this issue, they have beaten no one to Play Nth Ferriby ! hardly big news ! for us to be challenging and 2nd in the Unibond Prem AFTER PROMOTION is a much bigger achievement, but not for Simmo and the 1874 paper - wont be reading it anymore, unless I find one in the bin.
